Hello! My name is Chester and I am a Year 2 student in English Language and Linguistics at the University of York. I am an aspiring teacher with humble beginnings. My qualifications include: 5** in English Language DSE English Results: Reading 5** Writing 5** Listening 5** Speaking 5* Graduated from Shatin Government Secondary School, Currently pursuing an overseas degree at University of York, a Russell Group University located in York, England 2. Teaching goals are, firstly, to improve students' critical thinking and their approach to exam questions. Many students are proficient in terms of fluency but may be unable to make use of their wealth of knowledge due to not understanding what the question is looking for in an answer. Knowing what to look for when encountering tricky questions in the exams may provide them an edge over fellow students. Naturally, since vocabulary and grammar is vital in English, there will be notes and weekly reading texts to foster students' skills in these areas. One of the many frustrations of students in exams is that they encounter unfamiliar words and would be stuck in trying to work out the meaning. Gaining exposure to more English texts makes students more confident in tackling these issues and improve their language skills. If needed, I may provide past papers for exam drilling for students. However, doing past papers is only a way to gauge your current language skill. I strongly recommend improving the pupil's own level of English before focusing on past papers, as past papers lose most of their effectiveness once they have been completed once. I have taught students from Shatin Government Secondary School (Band 1) and Po Leung Kuk C. W. Chu College (Band 2), and secondary school graduates that retook the HKDSE examination and I am familiar with intermediate and advanced learners of English, and can accommodate their needs accordingly.
