I am Glynise Jhen Aiencie C. Agustin, a year 1 associate degree student at HKUSPACE, taking Business Administration. I was delighted to see that your center was open to hiring a part-time tutor. As someone who has relied on tutors to help me with subjects I found difficult, I look forward to following in their footsteps and helping kids who need it the same way I did. Over the past years, I have participated in both formal and casual tutoring. My first-ever experience with tutoring was casual peer-to-peer tutoring at my school. It was native English- speaking students being paired with Chinese students who were not very familiar with English. We would do language enrichment activities that were beneficial to their English learning, such as reading English novels, watching English films, and listening to English Podcasts. I will never forget when my Chinese-speaking peer came to me to let me know that I helped her a lot with her English dictation. During my time with Intercultural education, I volunteered to visit local schools in Hong Kong with other foreign volunteers to teach students about different cultures, and the lessons were conducted in English. And in my time with The Genius Workshop now, I conduct mechanic classes using Legos to kids aged 3-6 and a more advanced robotics, engineering, and simple coding to kids aged 6-14. In terms of my teaching philosophy, I believe that students learn best when they feel safe making mistakes, asking questions, and being curious. Making a mistake means you tried something despite it because you wanted to learn. When I would conduct lessons in my old experiences, I always encourage a student to try even though they thought they would make a mistake. If they do, I will still encourage them, emphasizing the fact that their mistake is a chance for them to learn how to do it better, and that mistakes are a sign that they gave it a try. Whenever they would ask more questions than I could answer, I would take the time to sit down with them and learn the answers to their question. Not only that, but I also believe that their curiosity should never be diminished. Curiosity is what drives them forward to learn, to grow, and to be inspired to reach for their goals. As a teacher, it is my job to keep that curiosity burning. In terms of my expectations on salary, I would like to receive what is up to par with my skills and experiences. Based on my experience and the typical rates for part-time tutors in centers, I am seeking around $100-150 per hour or $500 per day. However, I am open to discussing a fair trade where the center and I can meet in between, especially if there is a trial lesson I can partake in. I really do hope you could consider me for this job. Hello! I'm Keiron, a British native English speaker and a CELTA-qualified tutor (Pass B). I recently graduated from University College London with a First Class BSc in Psychology, where I specialised in Bilingualism and Second Language Acquisition, Language and Cognition, and Developmental Psychology. I've just started as a kindergarten English teacher at Language Tree, and I also teach one-to-one online. Teaching experience For the past year I've taught one-to-one EAL lessons online to five to eight primary-age students (roughly ages 6 to 13), mostly Cantonese and Mandarin speakers, for more than ten contact hours a week. I design each student's materials around the pronunciation and fluency habits that carry over from their first language. Many of my students return week after week, which I'm proud of.
