Hi~ My name is Alris, and I am currently a final year Physics major at CUHK. I have studied in Yew Chung International School from year 4-7, studied in the US in year 8, and in the UK from year 9-13. I am holding GCSE and GCE A-level qualifications, which are UK versions of IGCSE and IAL. Given my background in Physics, I am a very methodical teacher. For students in secondary school, I would explain the concept briefly, and put my focus on explaining how to solve the problem step by step, then guide the student through the same process. Furthermore, I am able to point out to students on questions that can be solved in a similar process, such that they can use the practised methods on unfamiliar problems. Apart from being highly methodical, I am a very patient teacher. My past maths & physics students have weaker mathematical skills, and often leave the school maths/physics class I like to give encouragement as I watch the student solve a given problem, and would guide them back to the right direction when they are solving the problem wrongly. For my younger students, I often bring a higher energy in my lessons. In addition, I employ a sticker reward system, and students can exchange them for a small reward such as candy/biscuits. I understand that younger students have a shorter attention span, therefore l would curate an interactive learning seesion break such as a 5minute number card game in a tutoring session if that is needed. Tutoring experience: I have taught phonics to K3 students, of which one is a SEN student. I have briefly taught a HKDSE F.3 physics student. During my time in the UK, I was the maths and physics ambassador in my high school. I co-run the maths help clinic during lunchtime, where I would tutor students who require help in their maths homework. I also have experience in teaching IB SL mathematics. My preferred language of instruction is English. Since l am a final year university student, my schedule is highly flexible. Asking homework problems on whatsapp is highly welcomed for me as a tutor. I am a 24-year old University graduate in Mathematics, studying overseas in Canada at the University of British Columbia, and in Singapore at the National University of Singapore (all taught in English). I have experience with tutoring international students in a patient and empathetic manner. As a product of my studies and experiences, I have a strong sense of breaking complex problems down into simple and comprehensible components, and I am eager to share these skills with students. I have maintained a place on the Dean's Honour List for academic excellence in my university studies, and have participated in informal private tutoring programmes to apply what I’ve learned in a constructive way for others. Eager to aid students in the most effective way I can, I am happy to provide those I tutor with additional support; including answering WhatsApp questions, writing quizzes and tests myself and evaluating students' progress with them.
