One remarkable experience of mine is being the female leading actress of my school’s annual Trilingual Musical twice, performing METAMORPHOSIS in Form 1 and SMILE in Form 4. As the director was the NET, I always had to communicate with him about the content of the script, the required emotions, the gestures and ways of delivery in English and gradually become a competent communicator and English user. Most importantly, I fell deeply in love with English Drama and literature. Fond of English, I joined the Hong Kong Schools Speech Festival twice. During the first time, I invited seven of my schoolmates to join the Dramatic Scene Competition, performing SKELLIG by David Almond. Weeks of busy but enjoyable training afterschool fostered our teamwork and enhanced our fluency in English. Another eye-opening event was the Solo Prose Reading Competition. Despite the pressure from public examinations, I am still grateful to have joined the contest. With the guidance from the NET, I was so into the pop fiction TWILIGHT and reading it for hundred times with the best delivery of emotions. The hard work eventually paid off, I won the Championship and I am thankful too that my artistic talent blossoms was recognized and being chosen by the Hong Kong Theatre Works to perform the Cantonese versions of both TWELFTH NIGHT at Hong Kong Cultural Centre and THE LITTLE PRINCE at North District Town Hall during the summer holiday in Form 3 and Form5. Another memorable event is my participation in Standard Chartered Hong Kong English Public Speaking Contest. Although English is not my mother-tongue, I managed to get into the top ten and was awarded the Good Performance certificate. It was such an eye-opening experience to watch the speeches given by other contestants.
