Introduction
Teaching Experience
LCLC Tutorial Centre (Part-time Tutor, July 2024 – September 2024)
• Assisted in teaching Biology, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
• Served as a teaching assistant: helped students clarify misconceptions, explained lecture notes during class, and marked exercises with constructive feedback.
• Contributed to the preparation of mock exam questions for the 2025 DSE, utilizing my in-depth knowledge of exam paper structure, question difficulty, mark allocation, and time distribution strategies.
Chemistry Teaching
• Provided in-depth teaching on mole calculations and methods to avoid common misconceptions.
• Taught exam techniques, such as constructing "calculation boxes" to minimize careless mistakes in molecular formula questions.
• Emphasized a meticulous attitude toward answering MCQs, treating them as scoring opportunities. I taught elimination and bypass techniques to help students solve questions efficiently with minimal time.
• Expert in long-answer (5-mark) questions: familiar with mark schemes, including expected experimental methods, materials, and procedures.
Biology Teaching
Paper 1
• Strong background in human and plant biology: transport, nutrition, feedback loops, nervous system, and cardiovascular system.
• University-level experience in experimental design enhances my ability to guide students through DSE-style experiments. I emphasize identifying variables (independent, dependent, and controlled) and linking procedures to biological reasoning.
• Scored 11/11 on the 2024 DSE Biology essay question. I specialize in:
o Breaking down essay questions into smaller components
o Identifying implied points
o Helping students recall relevant knowledge efficiently
o Explaining how to maximize marks through structured answers
Paper 2
• Scored 18/20 in Module 1 (Physiology) and 17/20 in Module 4 (Human Genetics).
• Trained in interpreting and analyzing data, with a strong focus on physiological applications (e.g., kidney osmoregulation, vasoconstriction/dilation).
• University-level genetics experience strengthens my teaching of advanced DSE topics: DNA banding, restriction enzymes, plasmid action, DNA arrangement, PCR testing, etc.
Mathematics Teaching
• Mastery of advanced calculator functions and their application in solving Section B problems, such as 3D trigonometry, coordinate geometry, and advanced spatial geometry systems (ASGS) as well as fast-accurate method(s) tailoring Section A question(s).
• Proficient in integrating concepts (e.g., using circumcenter and 3D trigonometry together, as seen in the 2023 DSE).
• Scored 43/45 in the 2024 DSE Mathematics Core MC paper.
• Teach high-efficiency MCQ techniques using calculator programming, triangle properties, the four centers of a circle, and log graph analysis—helping students reduce time spent per question and allowing time for careful review.
In-Class Exercise Preparation – Unit Education Centre 薈進教育中心 (June-August 2024)
• Assisted Chemistry teacher Mr. Tom Chu in preparing high-quality practice exercises for DSE students.
• Selected and modified questions from past DSE and Hong Kong A-Level exam papers to align with current syllabus and student ability.
• Helped students work through adapted questions in class, reinforcing core concepts and improving exam technique.
• Focused on creating well-structured exercises that target common weaknesses, misconceptions, and exam traps.
Private Tutorial Teaching in the UK (November 2024 – April 2025)
Biology
Gained deeper insight into integrating physiological understanding with data analysis, especially within human systems.
Developed methods to help DSE students build strong foundational links between quantitative data and biological mechanisms—essential for interpreting experimental and case-based questions.
Mathematics
Learned and applied faster mental math techniques from A-Level content that can outperform calculator use in certain DSE questions.
For example, taught students how to use the cross-multiplication method and other mental strategies for more efficient problem solving.
Acquired deeper understanding of coordinate geometry—focusing on Part A2 (locus) and Part B (advanced coordinate geometry)—and enhanced student skills in graph construction and interpretation.
Special Educational Needs Experience
Taught a student with ADHD (a neurodivergent condition), gaining experience in adjusting lesson pace and content delivery to avoid cognitive overload.
Designed tailored study plans that balanced challenge with accessibility—ensuring concepts were well-understood without overwhelming the student.
Emphasized structured, paced instruction to maintain focus and foster a supportive learning environment.
Other Relevant Experience
Over 400 hours of experience in a paediatric ward (兒科), where I developed strong communication skills through interactions with children and their parents. This experience helped me learn how to handle issues such as time management, academic pressure, and emotional challenges—skills that translate well into teaching and student support.
I am confident in teaching younger students and explaining concepts clearly at their level. My ability to communicate patiently and effectively makes me well-suited for working with primary and junior secondary students.
I can also offer a full English-speaking teaching environment upon request. As an international medical student studying in the UK, I have developed fluent English communication skills that can support students in improving their English listening and speaking abilities alongside subject learning.
I am a patient and approachable teacher, able to explain complex ideas—whether scientific concepts or mathematical equations—in a way that both students and parents can understand. I work closely with families to ensure their concerns are addressed and to help them better understand any academic challenges their child is facing.
My communication experience, combined with academic expertise, allows me to tailor lessons according to each student’s needs and support them effectively through their learning journey.
