In the previous years of my secondary school life, other than the busy schedule of academic studies, I have also actively participated in various extra-curricular activities which allows me to gain valuable experiences as well as my character formation. Through all this, I became a caring and responsible person. Being one of the leaders of the Young Friends of St. Paul gave me the chance to organize various activities in school for junior school mates to take part in. Our annual service programme at the Wan Chai Methodist Centre for the Seniors have been a success as the elderly enjoyed our activities. I have also been one of the organizer of our annual school retreat last year. Organizing a 2-days camp for 40 people is never an easy task for students. Despite those difficulties we faced, we still managed to overcome them. Through these precious experiences, I became a more confident and systematic person while holding different activities and are able to act as a leading role among a community. Moreover, my interpersonal skills have also been greatly strengthened through communicating with my committee members. I have learnt the importance of teamwork as well as listening to other’s. I am also more comfortable to interact with others now when compared to previous years. My participation in community service at charitable organizations have also began as soon as I become a secondary school student five years ago. As a member of the Legion of Mary in our school, I made regular visits to the Home of Love and Po Leung Kuk Lee Mo Fun Memorial Dormitory. Although my contribution has not been much that I am unable to solve the financial problems nor to improve the livelihood of the needy and the homeless. I still sincerely believe that I have made a difference in showing them that there are people in the society who cared about them. It is also a gratifying experience to see the heartily smile of those intellectually disadvantaged children while playing with them. These community service has been an indispensable part of my school life and my character formation. Without the experience, I would not have acquired the virtues of empathy and compassion. And therefore, I also gained the ability to appreciate and praise others. I guarantee I will also do my best to overcome the challenges and obstacles ahead as well as being the role as a reliable tutor.
